Arbatax

Arbatax is a small village on the east coast of Sardinia in the province of Ogliastra. The village belongs to the municipality of Tortolì and is located directly at a port built in the 19th century. Arbatax was once a fishing village, founded by immigrants from the Naples region, as the Sardinians were not fishermen. It has evolved into a popular holiday destination with excellent seafood restaurants.

One of the main attractions of Arbatax is the Red Cliffs coastline that stretches along the coast. The red cliffs, formed by iron oxide in the rocks, provide a spectacular contrast to the blue sea and are a popular subject for photographs. Along the coastline, there are also many small coves and beaches that are perfect for swimming and sunbathing.

Another highlight of Arbatax is the lighthouse perched on a cliff above the sea. The lighthouse was built in 1857 and offers breathtaking views of the coast. The surroundings of the lighthouse are also a popular spot for walks and hikes.

In Arbatax, there are also many opportunities for water sports activities such as snorkeling, diving, kayaking, and sailing. The location on the coast and the numerous small coves make the village a great place for water sports.

Arbatax is also known for its culinary specialties, especially seafood, which is very popular here. Visitors can enjoy freshly caught fish in the village's restaurants.

Overall, Arbatax is a charming village with a large port where ferries from the mainland also dock.

From Arbatax, there are ferry connections to Cagliari and Civitavecchia near Rome.
