Description:

There is a section on this hike that runs on adventurous wooden ladders and footbridges. Here, you sometimes need all fours. But even those who only hike up to these and skip the descent to the bay will be rewarded with a magnificent view of the bay. Cala Birìala is a beautiful bay with a bright, fine gravel beach. The water here is fantastic for snorkeling. It‘s not as crowded as Cala Luna or Cala Goloritzè.

Tour information:

Arriving at the Golgo plateau of Baunei, the asphalt road ends shortly before the San Pietro church. It‘s worth stopping here and visiting the area around the church with its beautiful old olive trees, donkeys, pigs, goats, and cows. From the church, keep to the right. There‘s also a signpost here for Cala Sisine. Initially, you‘ll follow a wide gravel road past the parking lot that leads to the tour to Cala Mariolu, further into the valley. The road becomes winding, narrower, and partly steep downhill. But the rental Panda can still handle it easily. The lower Golf is already reaching its limits here. After a few kilometers, you‘ll come to a paid parking lot for about 5 € at Ololbizzi (please do not park illegally, as this can be very expensive). From the parking lot, you‘ll follow a stretch of the main road and then turn right, following the signpost for Cala Sisine. After a few meters on the gravel road, turn right onto the trail. Here, you‘ll be on the Selvaggio Blu path. After about 1.6 km, there‘s a left turn in a hairpin bend leading up to the very beautiful Ovile Piddi. An old hut with a stable. From Ovile Piddi, you‘ll descend back to the trail, and after a few hundred meters, the path to Cala Birìala turns right. It‘s steep downhill, and you‘ll soon come across a wonderful viewpoint. Please approach with caution! This is where the section with the footbridges and wooden and metal ladders begins. You‘ll descend steeply through a canyon, then down a ladder about 5 meters long, and further through a small piece of forest. After about 100 meters, keep left towards the north. Now just a few steps down to the beach. The return route follows the same path, without the detour to Ovile.
